PRESS RELEASE
Maumelle, AR: January 16, 2009 - Pulaski Charter School, Inc. [d/b/a Academics Plus Charter School (APCS)] has released the following press release concerning the district's observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
The Board of Trustees adopted the calendar as presented by our former Superintendent last spring. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday was missed through an unfortunate oversight, and our calendar was published.
The issue was identified at a Faculty/Staff meeting on Thursday Jan. 15, 2009, at which time it was too late to announce a change in the approved calendar. The normal attendance policy will apply, therefore, to all students, faculty and staff on Monday; any rumors to the contrary are incorrect.
The administration and Board of Trustees support the MLK Holiday and will include it in planning the school calendar in the future.
While it is unfortunate that rumors have been spread, we do not believe it is appropriate to address them individually.
Academics Plus is a public charter school and we are extremely fortunate to have a great group of bright, intelligent and independent students.
APCS is an open enrollment charter school which provides an academically rigorous college preparatory program for all students regardless of race, ethnic origins, national background or socioeconomic level. School leaders believe that all children can learn when challenged by high expectations. APCS understands that attitude, behavior, effort and attendance, as well as ability, determine academic success.
For additional information regarding APCS's enrollment requirements, curriculum offerings and other student services contact Dr. Buster Lackey, Principal of APCS at (501) 851-3333 or via email at buster.lackey@academicsplus.org. – END OF
